Pittsburgh to Offer Free Election Day Child Care, But Limited Recreation Center Services

Pittsburgh will offer free child care on Tuesday, Nov. 3 for Election, but will close or offer limited services at many of CitiParks’ recreation centers and Healthy Active Living Senior Centers.

Free Child Care

Since Pittsburgh Public Schools will be closed on Election Day, four CitiParks recreation centers will offer free child care with lunch provided starting at 8:30 a.m. The centers include:

  • Ammon Community Recreation Center

  • Jefferson Recreation Center

  • Magee Recreation Center

  • Ormsby Community Recreation Center

Families are asked to register their children directly with the recreation center they plan to attend to ensure adequate staffing, meals, and programming. CitiParks is coordinating with community partners to provide educational and enrichment activities throughout the day.

Closures

CitiParks will close the following recreation centers on Tuesday, including: Arlington, Brookline, Paulson, Phillips, Warrington, and West Penn. Additionally, the following Healthy Active Living Senior Centers will not be open: Beechview, Greenfield, and Hazelwood.

Some Healthy Active Living Senior Centers will offer lunch service only, including Washington, Sheraden, and South Side.

All other CitiParks recreation and Healthy Active Living Senior Centers will operate on their normal schedules.

Polls will be open for Election Day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Residents can find their polling station on the Pennsylvania Department of State’s website.
